The following information is for oily, sensitive, non-pigmented and wrinkled skin. Look for these ingredients in the skin care products you buy to get the maximum benefits.

Good Skin Care Ingredients

1. Antioxidants to prevent wrinkles:

Yucca-To prevent wrinkles

Basil
Caffeine
Camilla sinensis (green tea, white tea)
Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone)
Feverfew
Genistein
Ginger
Ginseng
Grape seed extract
Idebenone
Lutein
Lycopene
Pomegranate
Pycnogenol (a pine bark extract)
Silymarin
Yucca

2. To decrease inflammation:

Aloe vera
Arctium lappa (burdock root)
Basil
Boswellia serrata
Chamomile
Dexpanthenol (also known as provitamin B5)
Epilobium angustfolium (willow herb)
Feverfew
Ginger
Licochalone
Mallow
Niacinamide
Red algae
Salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid, or BHA)
Sulfacetamide
Sulfur
Tea tree oil
Zinc

3. To improve acne:

Benzoyl peroxide (but see below)
Retinol
Salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid, or BHA)
Tea tree oil

4. Avoid these Common beauty ingredients

Acetone
Alcohol
Benzoyl peroxide

Warning for Many Oily, Sensitive, Non-pigmented, Wrinkled (OSNW) skin: Benzoyl Peroxide

“Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most commonly used topical preparations for acne. It helps fight bacteria and moderates oiliness. Although it works, it may cause burning, stinging, and redness in sensitive OSNW skin. However, not all OSNWs will experience this problem, and many individuals who suffer from acne will benefit from its use. Also it may be easier to tolerate a product like Proactiv Reparing Lotion because it contains a lower concentration of BP (2.5% or less). Combining a benzoyl peroxide product with an anti-inflammatory product such as Cutanix Sensitive Skin Moisturizer may help you use benzoyl peroxide.

Skin Care Ingredients to Avoid

1. Due to stinging and itching from skin care products:

Acetic acid
Balsam of Peru
Benzoic acid
Cinnamic acid
Lactic acid
Menthol
Parabeams
Quaternium-15

2. To minimize pimples or blackheads:

Butyl stearate
Chemical additives such as decyl oleate, isocetyl stearate, isopropyl myristate, isostearyl neopentanoate, isopropyl isostearate, isopropyl palmitate, myristyl myristate, myristyl propionate, octyl palmitate, octyl stearate, and propylene glycol-2 (PPG-2)
Cinnamon oil
Cocoa butter
Cocos nucifera (coconut oil)
Lanolin
Peppermint oil

3. To minimize skin redness:

Alpha hydroxy acids (lactic acid, glycolic acid)
Alpha lipoic acid
Benzoyl peroxide (for some people)
Vitamin C

4. Sunscreen ingredients to avoid

If skin burns, itches, or turns red in response to sunscreen avoid:
Avobenzone
Benzophenone
Octyl methoxycinnamate

5. Skin care ingredients to avoid

Foundation:
Oil

Powder:
Avoid pressed powders with isopropyl myristate. Look for oil-control products instead.

Blush:
Avoid D & C red dyes (xanthenes, monoazoanilines, fluorans, and indigoids).
Look for the natural red pigment carmine instead.
