Every minute you are exposed to strong UV rays, your skin is affected. For every increase of 34 degrees F or 1℃ increase, the level of sebum increases by 10%. This leads to a high probability of your skin being affected by acne or other problems.
This is why you need to keep your skin clean and smooth during the hot season.
What Can Happen with Sebum?

Sebum
When sebum is combined with dirt or pollutant in the air, it becomes oxidized and blocks pores and causes skin troubles. So knowing that you can prevent acne and pimples due to blocked pores and performing sebum skin care is a big help.
If the top layer of your skin, the epidermis, is slippery and oily due to the combination of sebum and sweat, the skin’s resistance to external conditions is weak.
Dirt and debris in the air will easily accumulate on your skin as it acts like a sticky magnet. This is even more so if you have makeup on. Our skin is also skewed towards alkalinity which makes it an easy environment for germs to multiply.
Although the surface of your skin may be wet and sticky, the bottom layer of the skin, dermis, is dry. If you work in an office environment or some other dry place where a fan or air conditioner is always on, your sweat is evaporated which causes the skin to dry out and becomes less elastic.
How to Control or Reduce Sebum
Oil and Moisture Balanced Skin Care
If you follow an oil-moisture balanced basic skin care routine, your sebum skin care is half successful already.
Generally, people with excessive sebum secretion tend to focus too much on removing sebum but it is more important to adjust the moisture and oil balance. Your skin works to maintain a healthy balance in all aspects so if too much sebum is removed, your skin will just end up working harder to bring everything back into balance.
Put another way, by lacking moisture in your skin, your glands will produce sebum to try and adjust all the while your dermis (inside skin layer) remains dry.
So what do you do to maintain balance?
- Reduce the temperature difference indoor and outdoor, unless temperatures are extremely hot and unbearable where you live of course.
- Moisturize your skin with lotion, moisturizing essence or whatever you like to use.
- Use homemade facial recipes or facial mask sheets.
Try to Achieve Temperature Balance
Stay where it’s too hot or under the sun and your skin temperature increases, sebum level increases and pores get bigger. Stay where it’s too cold and your skin will most likely dry out.
So find places to go where your skin isn’t under extreme stress. You may not know it but your skin is constantly at work.
Pay Attention to Pores on your Nose
Blackheads can’t be completely eliminated with a one-time method. Consistent skin care is required.
Many people use their fingers and nails to squeeze out blackheads but this is a bad idea for the following reasons.
- Lots of dirt on and under your nails. When you squeeze blackheads on your noise, you are likely to dump loads of waste into your pores without knowing it.
- High chance of leaving ugly scars as the pore walls can be damaged which also leads to bigger pores.
Consistent Skin Care and Cleansing
As long as you are consistent with your cleansing routine you will have beautiful skin. If not, then try deep cleansing (exfoliating skin) 2-3 times a week and provide your skin with plenty of moisture.
Did I mention that mask sheets are a great way to improve moisture and feed your skin with nutrition?
Get your skin in top condition. No more embarrassing breakouts with the best facial mask.
