Thanks to living in a world flooded with information, it’s so easy to find information on the internet. However, as the amount of available information increases exponentially, so too does the amount of incorrect or misleading information. This is so true for facial skin care as well.
Most women are concerned with removing wrinkles on their face and books on facial exercises are now available that proudly tout their exercises as “proven” to remove wrinkles. But does it?
Advocates of “Facial Exercises” say that…
- If you pull up the brown bone area with your fingertips, it will lift the skin around your eyes.
- If you follow several facial motions as demonstrated in certain books (I won’t go over details on which exercises), your facial muscle will be firm which reduces wrinkles.
- It promotes tighter muscle tone and blood circulation.
- 30 minutes of daily facial exercises will lead to an increase in the production of collagen elastin, smaller pores and well distributed oils.
- These exercises are easy to follow at no cost.
The list goes on but I’ve only listed the common rationales.
Facial Care Experts Say…
- Our facial muscles don’t act like other muscles in our body. Facial muscles don’t react to movements by becoming firmer or growing bigger.
- If these exercises did work, wrinkles would disappear from daily facial expressions such as blinking, squinting, frowning, smiling, yawning, chewing, talking or even singing.
- Instead, facial exercises will increase wrinkles. Dermatologists say that it could deepen existing lines by forcing the face into unnatural expressions. Think about it, don’t wrinkles appear from repeated movements of facial muscle?
Suggestions from the Facial Care Experts
Avoid squintting, vigrous scrubbing, sipping through a straw and leaning on your cheek or chin with your hand.
So what is your opinion? Are facial exercises an effective way of removing wrinkles or isn’t it? I personally don’t believe it works.

Vanya, I found your blog through Glamour. Facial exercises do work. I had these very deep lines from my nose to mouth, I don’t know what they’re called in English. I bought a book + DVD called Facercise for $40 (which I thought was a LOT of money) and started doing the very embarrassing series of facial exercises they recommended. The lines are practically gone after 2 weeks. Actually, it’s been 2 months since i got it, but it took about 10 days for me to notice that those lines had disappeared. My cheekbones also look different too — more modelesque, which was kind of unexpected. YOu know how you suck in your cheeks sometimes to look like a model? I look like that with almost no effort which surprised me. The face thinning exercise is probably the reason. I know it’s not in my head because my grad school classmates have stopped asking why I look so tired.
Don’t knock it. I’m a HUGE skeptic and cheapo but this has been one of the best (beauty) investments i’ve made. Haven’t tried other facial exercise programmes. I chose this one because it was well-reviewed on Amazon… Keep up the blogging.

Hi Anne,
Thanks for dropping by and leaving your thoughtful comment. Facial exercises…. in the end I guess it really does depend on the person. Personally, facial exercises didn’t much for my skin or wrinkles. I still have them and I didn’t notice any changes. Maybe it was because I wasn’t doing it properly or I was not being committed, but if it works for you, great. I on the other hand wouldn’t be recommending it to people.
Thanks for coming.

My current favorite skin care line is Nu Skin. The products are amazing. I love that they have so many different things to choose from.
